Frequently Asked Questions

Making the Most of your Kindermusik Experience

-The age recommendations outlined for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way.  Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the semester for the class in which you are enrolling.  If you have concerns about your child?s success in a particular age range, we would be happy to discuss your child?s needs and to work with you to place him/her in the best class.

-It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. For some children, the first few weeks will be challenging ones as they adjust to the new surroundings, people and music around them.  Please realize that what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. Every child adjusts differently and on a different schedule, but be assured that every child does benefit from being in a KM class, even if only as an observer, acquainting him/herself with the space around him to establish familiarity before focus. The most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model.  The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home is key to facilitating musical learning and growth.  You can help them by adding extra security, redirection and enthusiasm, and by playing your home CD?s consistently, especially during those first weeks.

-Due to limited class sizes and the delicacy of the younger class settings, Village and Our Time classes can only accommodate non-enrolled siblings when the sibling is young enough to stay contented in a car seat or stroller.  Please talk to your teacher regarding bringing older siblings to class.  We may evaluate on a case-by-case basis, but please realize that we will make our decisions based on minimizing factors that may cause distractions during class.  Also, it is important that your child know that you will dedicate your full attention to him/ her during music class, and that it is your time together.

-From time to time, almost every child will lose his/her composure in class.  This is normal behavior and if you can help your child recover quickly, try to stay inside the classroom.  If more time is required to help your child recover, please use our waiting area outside of the classroom to comfort and console your little one and rejoin us in class.  Please do not use the sales floor for this purpose as Capital Music Center uses the showroom to conduct its business.

-Kindermusik class is a special time for sharing, learning and bonding between you and your child.  Please resist the tendency to talk with the other adults and stay focused on guiding your little one and enjoying the class together.  Remember KM believes the parent is a child?s first and most important educator!

- Please help make the most of your child's KM experience by taking advantage of the Home Materials throughout the week.  When your child comes to class with a sense of familiarity with the music it insures that your child will gain the most benefit, as well as foster a sense of confidence and excitelement.

Studio Policy

-Please help Capital Music Center keep the pianos on the sales floor free of little fingerprints.  Thanks!

-Please use the lounge as a waiting area before and after class, and avoid congregating outside the classroom, as other store employees may be at work.  Thanks!

-Drinks are not allowed on the sales floor.  If they are brought into the KM classroom, please insure they are in spill proof containers, and put away before class to avoid interruptions.

-Toys and special items may be brought for "show and tell" purposes, but should always be put away before class begins to avoid distractions during class.

-Please communicate to your child that Capital Music Center is a "No Running Zone".  KM offers many high-energy activities geared for their high energy levels, but running affords a danger to everyone!

-Imagine That! Families: please take your child to the restroom before class- we are unable to provide supervision to make a trip to the restroom during class if you are not present.

-If you must miss a class, please see your teacher about arranging a possible make up during another scheduled class that may have space available.  IN the event of teacher cancellation, we will notify you and arrange a makeup lesson.
